What is an offshore accountant?
An offshore accountant is a member of your finance team who happens to work from another country. They aren't a shared resource in an outsourcing centre, and they aren't juggling twenty other clients. With StaffLink, the accountant you interview is the accountant who does your work, every day, for as long as you keep them.
We employ them locally, pay them, provide their workspace and equipment, and look after HR. You manage the work: you set priorities, review what they produce and talk to them on Teams or Slack, the same as anyone else on your team.
That's the real difference between offshoring and outsourcing. Outsourcing hands a task to a firm and waits for the result. Offshoring with us adds a person to your team who learns your clients, your chart of accounts and the way you like things done.
What can a dedicated offshore accountant take on?
Most of our accountants come from practice or commercial finance roles with UK clients. Typical responsibilities include:
- Bookkeeping, bank and card reconciliations, and supplier and customer ledgers
- Month-end close: accruals, prepayments, depreciation and balance sheet reconciliations
- Management accounts, variance commentary and KPI packs
- VAT returns prepared under Making Tax Digital, ready for your review
- Payroll journals, pension reconciliations and year-end payroll schedules
- Year-end working papers and draft annual accounts for accountancy practices
- Cash flow forecasts and budget-versus-actual reporting
Who hires offshore accountants?
Two kinds of client make up most of our work. The first is UK businesses, from startups to established SMEs, that need more finance capacity than they can justify hiring locally. A £4,500-a-month hire is a big commitment for a company turning over a few million pounds. £1,250 a month is not.
The second is UK accountancy practices. Firms use offshore accountants to clear bookkeeping and year-end backlogs, get through the January Self Assessment peak and free senior staff for advisory work. Your offshore team member prepares the work and your qualified staff review and sign it off, so professional responsibility stays exactly where it is today.
Qualifications and experience
Most of our accountants are ACCA qualified or part-qualified, with many part-qualified accountants working towards full membership. Some also hold Xero or QuickBooks certifications. We screen every candidate for technical accounting, written and spoken English, and hands-on experience with UK accounting software before we put them forward.
We'll always tell you a candidate's exact qualification status. If the role needs a fully qualified accountant, put it in your brief and we'll shortlist on that basis.
Working hours and time zones
Pakistan is five hours ahead of the UK in winter and four hours ahead during British Summer Time. Our accountants work your hours, so a 9am to 5:30pm UK day is their afternoon and evening shift. You get answers in real time, not overnight hand-offs.
Communication runs on whatever you already use: Microsoft Teams, Slack, Google Meet or email. Many clients hold a short daily check-in for the first few weeks and drop to weekly once the accountant is up to speed.
How your data is protected
Your accountant works in your systems, with the user permissions you choose. You can limit access to particular entities, withhold payment rights and switch access off in minutes. Every team member signs a confidentiality agreement and works over encrypted connections.
We also recommend multi-factor authentication for every user and keeping payment approval with someone in the UK. Our compliance page explains how we handle client data.
What does it cost?
Prices are per full-time, dedicated team member, per month. The final price depends on the experience and software skills the role needs, and we confirm it in your quote.
| Role | StaffLink per month | Typical UK in-house per month | Saving |
|---|---|---|---|
| Admin staff | from £800 | £2,500+ | ~68% |
| Bookkeeper | from £1,000 | £3,000+ | ~67% |
| Accountant | from £1,250 | £4,500+ | ~72% |

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does an offshore accountant cost?
A full-time, dedicated StaffLink accountant starts from £1,250 a month. A comparable UK hire typically costs £4,500 or more a month. The exact price depends on qualification level, experience and software skills. Bookkeepers start from £1,000 a month.
Are your offshore accountants qualified?
Most are ACCA qualified or part-qualified, and some hold Xero or QuickBooks certifications. We confirm each candidate’s qualification status before you interview them, and we can shortlist only fully qualified accountants if your role needs it.
Can a UK accountancy firm hire an offshore accountant?
Yes, and many of our clients are practices. Your offshore accountant prepares bookkeeping, VAT, payroll and year-end work, and your qualified staff review and sign it off, just as they would for a junior in the office.
Do offshore accountants work UK hours?
Yes. Our accountants work UK business hours, which fall in the afternoon and evening in Pakistan. They join your meetings and answer messages in real time.
What happens if the accountant isn’t the right fit?
Contracts are monthly rolling with one month’s notice. If a placement doesn’t work out, we find a replacement, typically within 25 days.
Is offshoring the same as outsourcing?
No. Outsourcing sends tasks to a firm that decides who does them. Offshoring with StaffLink gives you a named, dedicated accountant who works only for you and takes direction from you.
